A Study in Strategy

Rituals was another team game created over a 5 week sprint. It combined the concepts from several of our favorite collectible card games. The game was themed around sacrificing smaller monsters in order to gain more powerful creatures. The goal was to create a gritty feeling card game.

Core Mechanics

The main mechanic of the game was building strong monsters. Cards came at multiple different levels, and in order to get higher level monsters out, one had to stack them on top of the preceding level. Level 2’s could go on 1’s, and then 3’s on 2’s. One of our largest mechanics was that the cards could come with holes in them, allowing the stats from the monster below them to show through. This allowed more strategy in planning what lesser monsters were sacrificed.
